With WordPress 6.8, the Edit and Select modes have been renamed to Write and Design modes.

When you select Write mode, you can focus exclusively on the writing process and all design tools are hidded from the sidebar. In Design mode, all design tools are available in the sidebar.

The following images show the difference between Edit and Select modes in WordPress 6.7 and Write and Design modes in WordPress 6.8. In WordPress 6.7, when you are in Edit mode design controll still appear in the sidebar.

In WordPress 6.8, in Write mode you can focus on the writing because design controls are hidden from the sidebar.
